Last blog(for a while): Changing the generic mindset about the streetwear/hype culture

Through this blog, I aim to explain the whole point of me creating this platform. Through this one blog I will sum up some of my most important blogs. I aim to change the generic opinion most of the world has on the streetwear/ hype-beast culture.

So to start off, what is hype fashion?

A hype-beast or hype beast may be defined as follows: "A person who follows a trend to be cool or in style. ... "A Hype Beast [sic] is a kid that collect[s] clothing, shoes, and accessories for the sole purpose of impressing others, and a streetwear enthusiast is someone who loves the culture around the brand or product and does not do it to impress others.

Mode of expression

I don't want this culture to be looked at something as "Oh just some expensive clothes who cares" but i want to show how it is a mode of expression. In this culture the opportunity to make friends is vast, if you're a seller and i am a buyer, we both create a bond and come to a certain price point for a product, and that bond between us could further turn into a community. This culture is a conversation starter for example "Oh where did you get that from?", " I love your outfit" or "So what do you plan to get from the supreme store today?". This culture has created a community of its own and i think it can be considered a mode of expression as it connects people from all over the world as they have a coinciding message to talk about.

Worth of the product

No one really understands what defines the price point for a product. If i were to tell you this T-shirt is worth Rs 20,000.

The first thought that would come to your mind is "why" "what is so great in it", i've limited it down to two factors, how exclusive the product is and because it is different. Due to the fact that it is exclusive everyone tries to get their hands on it, i could have bought a similar t-shirt for 1000 but just because it is rare I choose to go with this one, that is what a hype-beast is.

Okay tell me what is the first thing that you notice different about this shoe?

The Nike logo is turned around right, Exactly, Travis Scott knew if he does something so different and groundbreaking it would become a topic of discussion, everyone was talking about this because it wasn't ethically correct, "Yo you heard what travis did", "yeah its mad" it gets people to talk about it therefore the hype around the shoe increases, which in turn increases the resell value for the product. If i were to buy the same shoe with a normal logo it would be 200$, but this shoe right now goes for 1500$! This again relates to how this culture gets people to start talking and critique products.

Business opportunities

This culture has vast business opportunities, trust me I know people who base their total income of these clothes and shoes. You could buy a product for 5000 and sell it outside the store for 20,000, just because of the fact that it is rare and different, that is the reason this culture has a market for second hand products, because no you cannot get a new product anywhere else as it is rare and exclusive.

To conclude, this culture has problems and controversies of its own.

Do you think this blog changed your mindset about streetwear/ hype-beast culture?

Let me know in the comments below!

I will get back to daily uploading in a week or two!

Thank you.
