This part 2 of “Hype behind the Off white Nike collection” will explain what is so different in the shoe and what makes the hype for it and the resale prices so high. In the last blog I provided an overall to what the collection is and why was there so much hype for it.
The Design of the shoe, Virgil took 10 different nike silhouettes and he did not just add off white branding and add quotations and called it a day, he completely changed the shoe, he tried to add a change to each and every aspect of the shoe, you can almost say he deconstructed the shoe.
For an example an original Nike designed shoe would look like this, and a shoe deconstructed by Virgil would look like this.
The zip tie, this was something that the sneaker world had never seen before, a tag on a shoe, a tag that says “OFF WHITE CO NIKE ZIP TIE” this totally changed people's point of view on the shoe. Small small details like these made it seem like a work of art, and not only that the zip tie added a pop to the shoe, it sort of completed the shoe. Not everyone thought of it as a positive thing, some people thought Virgil was crazy for putting a big red zip tie on the side of an amazing piece of art.
The quotations and the off white nike branding on the shoe, the quotations on the shoe or any writing for a matter of fact is something different and new. Off white has been branding all of their clothes, bags and even their packaging for that matter with quotations, for a person who loves off white and nike this shoe is a straight cop for them. Every aspect of this shoe is something different and new, and never seen by the sneaker community before.
The shoe as a whole is just satisfying to look at that, if any one of the things would not have been there it would be incomplete and if there was anything more it would be too much. That is how the sneaker and streetwear market as something unique is released and it is limited everyone tries to get their hands on it!
